On Monday, September 17, 2007, at approximately 4:10 PM, Rehoboth Police Patrolman Brian Ramos received information that two suspicious males had been seen walking into yards in the area of Simmons Street. The males were then seen running from the area carrying what appeared to be lap top computers, and fleeing in a black Ford pick-up truck. Patrolman Paul Terenzi and Sergeant Richard Shailor stopped the vehicle a short time later and subsequently arrested Ronald L. Patenaude Jr., 27, of Fall River, MA and Adam G. Fleming, 22, of Bristol, R.I.

Rehoboth Police SIU officer Paul McGovern assisted with the investigation and both individuals were charged with having broken into a Simmons Street residence and stealing two laptop computers.

Patenaude and Fleming were transported to the Bristol County Jail where they were held on $2500. cash bail.

On Thursday August 22, 2007, Rehoboth Police responded to 1 Smith Street for a report of a domestic disturbance. 40 year old Raymond Briggs was subsequently arrested and charged with domestic assault and battery. This case was investigated by Ptlm. Matthew Gardner and was assisted by Sergeant Norman Todd and Ptlm. Keith Perry.
On Sunday August 5, 2007, Rehoboth Police Dispatch Center Received an E-9-1-1 call from a cell phone. A 39 year old distraught male told dispatch he was about to commit suicide in the woods and wanted us to tell his family that he had left them notes explaining his decision. Dispatcher Todd Honeycutt stayed on the line talking to this individual while officers in the field narrowed the search area using the subject's gaps signal from his own cell phone. The officers were able to narrow their search to a small section of woods on Fairview Ave. Honeycutt was then able to convince the subject to make him self known to the officers in the area. The subject was taken into Police custody and transported to Sturdy Hospital for evaluation. Sgt. Mark Rossi
On 07/07/07 at approximately 4:24 PM the Rehoboth Police Department received a cell phone call. The caller stated that he had just arrived at 327 Summer Street and found a man trapped under a vehicle. The caller did not know how long the man had been trapped. Rehoboth Police, Ambulance and Fire responded to the scene. Even though the man was freed quickly after the arrival of emergency personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigation indicates that the man was performing mechanical work on a 1978 Dodge Camper when the vehicle unexpectedly rolled trapping and crushing him with the left front tire.

The 41 year old victim was identified as Lawrence E. McPhilips of 67 County Street, Seekonk, MA. McPhilips body was transported from the scene to the State Medical Examiners Officer in Boston for autopsy. The incident is under investigation by the Rehoboth Police Department with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police and the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.
On 07/02/2007, at approximately 11:48PM, the Rehoboth Police were dispatched to 19 Walnut Street for a reported unwanted guest. The caller a 38 year old female stated that her ex-boyfriend was at her residence knocking on the windows and doors attempting to gain entry. The caller then notified dispatch that the male party had gained entry into the residence from a basement door and a verbal confrontation was taking place. When Police arrived they observed a male party exiting the residence and he was placed in custody. Fredrick C. Morra Jr., age 39 of 143 Front Street Lincoln, R.I. was charged by the Rehoboth Police with Armed Burglary, Domestic Assault, Disorderly Conduct and Disturbing the Peace. Morra was released on $1,500.00 cash bail and will be arraigned in Taunton District Court on 07/03/2007.
On 6/29/07 Rehoboth Police Officer Paul McGovern was on routine patrol when he observed a Blue and White Motorcycle passing vehicles in the break down lane on Winthrop Street westbound at the intersection of New Street.

Officer McGovern then observed this motorcycle lift his front tire off the ground and accelerate at a high rate of speed in excess of 100 M/P/H. Officer McGovern gave chase for over three miles. Due to heavy traffic the chase was terminated.

Rehoboth Police received information from Dighton Police that the motorcycle was from their town. Officer McGovern contacted the residence and had the operator a Juvenile respond to the police station with his mother. The Juvenile admitted to operating the motorcycle. He was charged with the following; speeding, failure to stop for a police officer, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a passing violation.
On 6/24/07, Rehoboth Police responded to a report motor vehicle crash in the area of 42 Gorham Street. Upon arrival, Officers observed a Chevrolet pickup truck had left the roadway striking a tree and several large rocks.

The operator, identified as DAVID W. THURBER, age 46, of 22 Heritage Road, Rehoboth, was the lone occupant of the vehicle. THURBER appeared confused and EMS was requested to respond to the scene.

Officers on scene determined that THURBER had been operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Further investigation determined that this was THURBER'S 7th OUI offense and that he had been operating after his license was revoked for previous OUI offense.

Charges include: OUI 7th Offense. Operating after Revocation of License for OUI, Marked lanes violation, Operating Negligently, Using a Motor Vehicle with out authority to do so.

THURBER was transported to Sturdy HOspital where it was determined he had no injuries. THURBER was transported to Rehoboth Police headquarters and held on $3500 cash bail. THURBER is scheduled for an arraignment on 06/25/07 in Taunton District Court. Rehoboth Patrolman Paul McGovern is the arresting officer.


On 6/17/07, at approximately 10:28 PM, Sergeant James B MEDEIROS was on routine patrol in the area of Wheeler Street. He observed a Grey Honda with RI plates pulled to the side of the road with it's lights on. MEDIROS pulled along the side of the vehicle and asked the operator, a white male, later identified as Alex J Amato what he was doing. He stated he was waiting for his girlfriend. Sergeant MEDEIROS asked him her last name and he stated he did not know her last name. MEDEIROS then pulled behind the vehicle and activated his emergency lights.

He observed a female walking towards his cruiser. MEDEIROS asked her what her name was ahs she stated her name. The female was a juvenile from the area. Both parties admitted to meeting on MY SPACE.COM MEDEIROS explained the consequences to AMATO. AMATO stated that she told him that she was 18. AMATO left the area with out incident.

MEDEIROS transported the female juvenile back to her residence and informed her parents of the situation.


On 04/06/2007 at approximately 2312 hours dispatch put out a broadcast for a gray Sport Utility Vehicle that was involved in a hit and run property damage in Taunton. The vehicle was traveling west on Rte 44 entering Rehoboth. The vehicle took a left onto New St. heading south bound towards County St. Dispatch stated that he was on the line with a 911 caller. The 911 caller stated that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed estimated at about 60 - 70 MPH.

Officers of the Rehoboth Police Department located the vehicle on County St. traveling at a high rate of speed. When officers attempted stop the vehicle it attempted to elude police by leading them on a pursuit of approximately 2 ½ miles. The pursuit started in the area of County St. at Elm St. and ended in the driveway at # 6 Damascus Rd. in Rehoboth. During this incident the vehicle struck a Rehoboth Police cruiser and attempted to strike other officers involved.

Police arrested 34 year old Joshua Weeks of Rehoboth. He will be charged with OUI Liquor, Reckless operation of a Motor Vehicle, Fail to stop for police, Speeding, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault w/ a Dangerous weapon, and Resisting Arrest. Weeks will be arraigned in Taunton District Court on the next court date.

This case is being investigated by Ptlm. Paul McGovern, and Sgt. Norman J. Todd. Assisting with the case are Ptlm. Matthew Gardner, Ptlm. Thomas Ranley, and Sgt. Mark Rossi.


On 02/10/07 at approximately 0110 Off.Bree Krasnianski of the Rehoboth Police Department stopped a motor vehicle on Plain Street. for erratic operation. After further investigation the operator identified as Roger Houghton, 43 of Taunton was arrested and chagred with operating under the influence of alcohol, operating negligently so as to endanger, and a marked lanes violation.

In an unrelated incident, Off. James Casey of the Rehoboth Police Department was dispatched to investigate a report of erratic operation on Anawan Street. Off. Casey located the vehicle in question operating Southbound in the North bound lane of travel. Off. Casey stopped the vehicle and after further investigation the operator John Luna, 26 of North Andover was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol, operating negligently so as to endanger and a marked lanes violation.

Both subjects were released on their own recognizance and will be arraigned at Taunton District Court on Monday.
On the morning of January 27th at approximately 0300 hrs, the East Providence Police Department initiated a motor vehicle pursuit traveling eastbound on Rt. 44 which eventually entered into Massachusetts. Shortly after the pursuit entered into the Town of Rehoboth, a Roadway Stop Stick Device was deployed disabling the two front tires of the fleeing vehicle. This vehicle continued traveling eastbound on Rt. 44 turning into a small shopping plaza.

Upon entering into the lot of the shopping plaza, the suspect in a continued attempt to escape apprehension began operating the vehicle in a reckless manner. The suspect began striking police cruisers, and driving toward several police officers from Rehoboth, Seekonk, and State Police. Officers were required to take evasive action in order to avoid being struck. Concerned for the immediate safety of the officer on scene, Rehoboth Police Lieutenant Bruce Dube discharged his firearm striking the suspect vehicle which then attempted to recklessly flee the parking lot.

The suspect vehicle was able to exit the parking lot and continued to flee westbound on Rt. 44 with officers in pursuit. As officers attempted to safely box the suspect vehicle in, the suspect repeatedly rammed their cruisers. The suspect vehicle was finally brought to a stop on Rt. 44 approximately a quarter mile from the shopping plaza, where the suspect was apprehended after a struggle.

The suspect identified as Charles T. Lane DOB 10/21/70 with a last known address of 54 Ingle Street in Taunton, MA will be charged with numerous offenses including multiple counts of Assault with the Intent to Murder, and the reckless operation of a motor vehicle. Mr. Lane also has an active RI Bench Warrant on file for him for Failure to Appear. Mr. Lane who was unable to raise the $75,000.00 Cash Bail set for him is being held at the Bristol County Jail pending arraignment.
The Rehoboth Police Department report that on Monday January 15, 2007, @ approximately 01:24 am, Officers were dispatched to #1 Smith Street on the report of a house break in progress. Dispatch advised responding officers that a fight could be heard in the background on the open telephone line. Officer James Casey and Lt. Bruce A. Dube arrived on scene and observed Erika Goyette, 18 of Attleboro, MA. laying in a first floor hallway and being assaulted by the resident Jamar Dodson, 26.

Subsequent investigation resulted in Dodson being placed under arrest for Domestic Assault & Battery and Intimidating a Witness. Goyette was placed under arrest for Breaking and Entering, Destruction of Property, and Domestic Assault & Battery.
On 12/19/2006 at approximately 12:28am, Ptlm. James Casey stopped a motor vehicle on Winthrop St. for a motor vehicle infraction. As a result of the stop, the driver of the vehicle, Edward W. Roy Jr. a 53 year old male from Taunton was arrested on an Outstanding Warrant out of Fall River District Court. Roy was transported to the Station and later released on bail. He will be arraigned in Fall River District Court later this morning.
